Three things

I’m taking part in this year’s Big Walk, because five years ago my dad was diagnosed with dementia.

I’m serious about defeating dementia so I’ll be fundraising in the coming weeks and be looking forward to what is going to be Alzheimer’s Research UK’s biggest ever Big Walk.

I’m looking forward to Alzheimer’s Research UK’s biggest ever Big Walk!

This year I’m not only going to be walking the route and fundraising through my online page, but I’m also going to be supporting the fight against dementia by recruiting others to take part. For all those affected by dementia, just like my dad, I’d like to ask you to get involved by doing one of these three things:

1.) Start a team

If like me you’ve already signed up, why not start a team. It’s easy to do; once you’ve all registered individually you can create a team page to invite all your friends and family too, making it even easier for people you know to join you. My team and I are all looking forward to walking together, then celebrating with a picnic.

If you haven’t signed up yet and can take part, please join us. If you don’t have anyone to walk with there will be lots of people also walking on their own who can all walk together.

2. Recruit a friend

You can double the impact you have in the fight against dementia by recruiting a friend to join you or take part on your behalf, so share the fact you’re supporting the Big Walk through Facebook, post pictures of you in training, put the ask out for others to join you and spread the word about the walk to end dementia.

3. Help us spread the word

Ask friends, family, people at work, neighbours, to talk to others who want to defeat dementia with you. The more people we have take part, the greater impact we’ll have on dementia research.

If you could put up a poster at work or in your local area, if you can share entry forms around the office or convince your boss to get involved as a sponsor or volunteer on the day, let the Big Walk team know by giving them a call on 0300 111 5 777 or email bigwalk@alzheimersresearchuk.org and they’ll get in touch to help them join us all at the biggest and most successful Big Walk yet!

step-3

Before dementia affected my father’s mobility and independence, he loved nothing more than nice long walks with or without the dog. The Big Walk is such a simple way of making a big difference. He won’t be able to make it round the Big Walk himself which is why I’m walking. Maybe you could walk for him too?
